What's that fancy new gun lock?

I dared my kids to touch a forearm, without my permission. I had a realistic 22cal. blank pistol that I used for bait. Never caught the first one out of three so much as nibbling at the bait.
I also never let firearms be a mystery. I showed my kids what a bullet would do when discharged. I let my kids pull the trigger while I held the gun, because they were too small to hold the firearm. The biggest thing is to take the mystery out of firearms and fire. Both can turn deadly in a matter of seconds.

Excellent post. In my opinion, kids get a very unrealistic knowledge about guns and what they'll do from watching TV. A real life demonstration of what they'll actually do is very important, plus removing the mystery aspect of them.

This is a good plan, as long as you also properly secure the firearms.

All my guns are locked up except 2 antique shotguns that were passed down and they reside on an antique gun rack. Unloaded and rendered inoperable as well. My boys don't know this, but as much as they have been around firearms and go shoot with me at the property and range they are desensitized to guns in a good way. The ones hanging up may as well be pictures on the wall as they never give them a second glance. Different times! All my fathers rifles were on gun racks and pistols were on the shelf in the closet. My fear of my father was greater then my curiosity of guns!

Hey,

Been drinkin' on a Saturday nite and a friend and I were talking about EDC stuff, and he has a ADD almost teen son and he fears he would get a hold of a home defense gun, and I remembered that fancy gun lock that both had a quick disconnect and a bluetooth enabled motion sensor, but I can't remember the name/thread for it.

Can anyone remember/reference the link so I can pass it on?

If he doesn't own a gun , you should take them both shooting and let the kid handle a gun at the range for his first time. I bet most kids that have problems have never even handled a gun before.
Hell when I was a kid me and my friends would play with my dads guns all the time. I made sure they weren't loaded and taught the other kids how to safely handle them. My dad noticed a bunch of rusty fingerprints on some of them one day and flipped out but at least he knew I knew how to handle them.
PS I was about as ADD as it gets.
