    O.C.G.A. 16-12-4 Cruelty to animals

    (f)(1) Nothing in this Code section shall be construed as prohibiting a person from:

    (A) Defending his or her person or property, or the person or property of another, from injury or damage being caused by an animal; or

    (B) Injuring or killing an animal reasonably believed to constitute a threat for injury or damage to any property, livestock, or poultry.

    O.C.G.A. 4-8-5. Cruelty to dogs; authorized killing of dogs

    (a) No person shall perform a cruel act on any dog; nor shall any person harm, maim, or kill any dog, or attempt to do so, except that a person may:

    (1) Defend his person or property, or the person or property of another, from injury or damage being caused by a dog; or

    (2) Kill any dog causing injury or damage to any livestock or poultry.

    (b) The method used for killing the dog shall be designed to be as humane as is possible under the circumstances. A person who humanely kills a dog under the circumstances indicated in subsection (a) of this Code section shall incur no liability for such death.

    (c) This Code section shall not be construed to limit in any way the authority or duty of any law enforcement officer, dog or rabies control officer, humane society, or veterinarian

    Yeah that would cover you. But I would still maybe reference an attorney or animal control first

    That depends.

    In the metro area where people dress up their dogs and push them around in strollers, probably.
    In less populated areas where some people make a living raising cattle, pigs, chickens and dogs are just dogs, probably not.

    When I was a kid growing up on the farm, any dog caught running livestock of any kind was shot on site......pedigree, families idea of "he's like one of our children" not withstanding. Cops and courts were never involved, it was the law of the land (and still is by the way). Don't want your dog shot, keep him away from the property/livestock of others.
