What's this gun worth? A friend wants to trade

lol, didn't realize that's the going sentiment for Savage actions, but I'm a bit out of touch. Thank y'all for the input!!
sorry that you are getting these type of responses...
idk how much that gun is worth, but what you can do i search this forum for that same weapon, compare the condition and maybe any upgrades or attachments. that might give you an idea an idea of its value. good luck
absolutely will do! I just didn't expect to find anything.

It's not specifically Savage, just like buying a new car, that gun lost a fair chunk of its resale value the day it was handed over to the guy who filled out a 4473 for it. The same would be true of almost any brand.

This is even more true of customized guns - while you CAN spend a lot of money on a standard, stock gun to customize it, at a certain point you end up putting more into the gun than you can ever expect someone to pay for it when you sell it. Cost vs value. It'll be very rare that any of those costs will be regained when you sell.

As someone said, it's relatively easy to come up with 'fair used price' on the optics etc., and so I'd start there. When it comes to the Savage, go take a look at similar models selling on Gunbroker or here, and start your valuation in that ballpark

Savage is a good rifle for the money. Especially the older ones

Trolling the guy isn't helpful to him and a distraction to those who might be interested in the subject.

First thing to do since it's your friend is a shoot the gun off a sled ( to take the human error out of the equation ) and then go from there. If it shoots 4 MOA at 100 yards it isn't wolf a dang! I have a buddy that built a 243 on a Savage acton and it is absurd accurate. Now I would spend some money on that gun Savage action or not.
