What's your best "accidental good shot"

My dad used to shoot dimes and nickels out of the air that other people would throw. I've still got a mushroomed nickel with the slug still in it.

One time with a bow, he put an archery target face up on the ground, stood beside it and shot an arrow straight into the heavens. He missed the target by less than a foot.

He was constantly doing things with weapons that others build careers and YouTube channels around. Splitting cards, lighting matches, etc.

I wish he was around to teach me some stuff. A lot of the things he would do playing around I thought was good but normal shooting. Now I realize what insane talent he had.

I keep telling myself I have the genetics to be good, but I don't think I'll ever get close.

Just posted this in another thread the other day and saw this one so I just copied and pasted it hear as well

I was fishing at my parents farm house in Tennessee and about 80 yards away down the cove a coyote strolled down to the water for a drink.so I pulled my ruger single six and put a 22 mag behind his ear and he dropped like a stone.my brother who was next to me couldn't believe the shot he just saw me make and still talks about it to thos day.I never did tell him I was aiming for its vitals so I was about a foot off lol

I spent 15 minutes or so emptying my daughters Red Rider at lightning bugs one evening. I took 4 or 5 out of the air at close range...

Also a few years ago was zeroing in a scope on a 22 with my dad when a fly landed on the target. Told my dad what I was about to do... lined up the shot and fired. We strolled down to check the target. Just a hole surrounded by a splatter where the fly was previously located. I took a pic with my phone, but I have no idea if I still have a copy of it...

Managed to do a smiley face on a target while doing a firearms training class. (I'm not that good) The class was very impressed and I was amazed.

I've had 2 "luck" shots...when I was a kid, I shot a bat out of the air with one shot obviously at dusk with an M1 Carbine (iron sights)....after my buddy missed it 5 times with a 12 gauge. Years later, I MISSED a buck because my bolt wasn't down and so all I got was a "click" then the big buck I'd been chasing all season that was 40 yards and broadside, heard me chambering a new round and ran off. I was so pissed, I didn't even really aim, just threw the rifle up and popped off a perfect heart shot on a spike buck 200 yards away and then raised up and hit a fox squirrel in the head I'd been watching across the field before the deer came in at 250 about 2 seconds after dropping the spike...this was with a Remington 700 30.06. Dang cat jumped in the window of my truck while I was getting the deer out and stole my squirrel. It was one of those half black and half white squirrels...I was going to keep the skin and tail.

Duck hunting on the salt fork 2 years ago. 4 mallards came in to the spread before legal shooting, 3 drakes and a hen. There were 3 of us hunting, so we sat and decided who was going to shoot which drake once legal shoot came around. I was sitting in the middle, so the middle drake was mine. Once it was time, we hopped up and took 'em. My drake fell with one shot from about 20 yards. When I went to pick up the ducks, I found the drake my buddy on the right was supposed to shoot at lying dead about 5 yards behind my drake. My buddy told me the drake flushed to the left so he only shot at the hen. I never even saw the second drake flush my way, as I was focused on mine, but I took 2 beautiful green-heads with one pull of the trigger on my trusty Mossy 500. Couldn't do it if I tried.

I know this one seems crazy but bear with me....

Years ago I was at a an outdoor range with my step-dad (at the time) which had a maximum range of 600 yards with targets set up at each 50-100 yards or so. We were shooting at .308 and a 7MM mag and for kicks we mounted a highpower scope to my little remington .22 to use for spotting. After shooting the two larger rifles we were messing around and decided to shoot the .22 angled high in the air at the furthest 600 yard target. I just kinda pointed the rifle in the air and fired 5 rounds down range. (We were the only ones there and there was not a soul within a couple thousand yards downrange).

We walked all the way to the 600 yard target which was steel and saw a few hits from the .308....we looked closer and saw a small impact from one of the little .22s!! The target was about the size of a human torso so to me that is the absolute luckiest shot ever! Definitely made me respect the range of .22 rifles.

I have two.
The first was duck hunting over 30 years ago when I saw a bufflehead flying about three feet above the water at around 140 yards away. I hadn't seen anything all day. I put the 870 to my shoulder and pulled the trigger and the duck foalded like it had hit a wall. Only two #4 pellets had hit him.

The second was with a wrist rocket, a english bulldog from the neighborhood would take a dump in my yard everyday. I bought a wrist rocket and some 25cal steel balls and started shooting it. One day I saw him coming down the road and I got ready.
He got set to do his business with hip butt turned to me at about 20 yards away. I took aim and let go. The ball hit him dead in the sack. Have you ever seen a bulldog run with his back legs in the air? He never stopped in my yard again.

I was lucky enough to have my brother with me when a coyote crossed the road about 75 yds ahead of us on an old logging road, so as we got up to where he went into the woods I saw him standing about 50 yds off watching us, so as I was stopping the truck with my left hand on the steering wheel and my brother handing me my 357 into my right hand I pointed it across my chest and just got the tip of the barrel out the window as I shot, never really sighted the shot and the truck was still rolling. I couldnt see the yote anymore and I turned to my brother, he was all slack jawed saying I cant believe you hit that. We both learned something that day, never shoot a gun inside the cab of a truck. That $hit was loud.
