whats your choice?

My wife and I both use hornady critical defense in 9mm. She carries an LC9 or G17, I carry a G26.

Same here brother....reason why I'm only able to try out a defense round once in a blue moon!

yeah and they say shoot at LEAST 100+ rounds of the good stuff you carry to get it broken in.. shooooooot im not going broke just to get used to it. if it goes bang and sends lead from the end of my barrel then its good for me ..

I've been studying this topic since before the "Miami Massacre" FBI shootout in 1986 that was the catalyst for dramatic research & development by the ammo mfrs in cooperation w/ the FBI to improve wounding capabilities or "stopping power" of their service weapons.

The modern bonded hollowpoints that are currently issued to Feder.,State, & Local law enforcement agencies are considered state of the art.

I won't even go into the FMJ vs. HP argument as it is ridiculous. If FMJ's were better then L.E. agencies would issue them. Their job when using lethal force is to stop the threat as soon as possible to save lives including their own.

I prefer to use the same rounds as the local city & county police departments.
In our area the bonded Speer Gold Dot is the ammo of choice.
The round has proven to be very effective on the street.
Also being able to say in court, if necessary, that you use the same round as local L.E. gives a liberal D.A. less to work with to "paint" you as a homicidal "gun-nut" who was itching to shoot someone than say a round like the "zombie killer".

Using that same "logic", I should have no problem justifying why I dumped my entire mag. of ball ammo into the chest of some dude.

But you will have to justify if some of those rounds overpenetrate & injure someone else.

There is a reason that the D.N.R. / Fish & Game will not allow hunters to use FMJ's for hunting.
They are proven not to humanely "stop" game animals.

They work the same way in humans.
FMJ's will do the job but they are not as forgiving as HP's in less than perfect shot placement.
Shot placement is always the top consideration but the sharp edges of the HP's cause more tissue damage & more blood loss which leads to faster incapacitation.
