Not my picture but I wish I had taken one of my first house with the growth chart of my kids and their friends.

This brings back memories that are permanently stained in my brain and it hurts knowing I will never get to go back in time to enjoy them again.

Dad’s out here with young kids, take them out for ice cream, go play putt-putt, snuggle them on the couch, play tag, teach them real world life skills. Before you know it, they are wondering off into the world without your protection.

Yep, you do your job as a dad correctly, and they take off into the real world....

Crazy to think you have about a year or two at most (in days spent with them) left in person with them after they move out....

We transferred our chart to a painted 1x4 when we moved years ago. We have since updated it as it leans against the wall in our current house. My son has finally passed his sister.
A few weeks ago we were in a local restaurant. A guy asked if we ever lived at ______? I told him we did. The guy smiled and said he and his wife had talked about giving us the door if they ever changed it out. The house has been updated and painted throughout since we moved 10+ years ago yet each of the owners appreciated the sentiments and left them. My daughter is home visiting this weekend. I may ask dude if we can swing by and update the door..

It seems like it sucks when you've successfully parented your child, they grow up, they get out on their own, we are lucky to see them once or twice a month. BUT fear not, grandchildren...if we've done our jobs correctly we will get to see them much more than our children! It is the gift that lets us remember all that we've done right and to try to help do it again. (and a reminder of all that we did wrong that shouldn't be repeated)
