I saw a thing once that said

“I got in touch with my inner self today. That’s the last time I’ll use single ply toilet paper!”

I look at door handle and/or push opens and strategically determine the lowest probability area that someone touches that part of the door and then push/pull from there. If the finish is wore off the top I touch the bottom. I don’t touch push plates, instead I’ll two finger the edge of the window at the trim or higher up on the door.
