Black bears are about the most docile animal in the bush...provided you stay away from the wee ones. Stand your ground and look big, they will run away.

Just smear that sauce on your shirt first. I think you can leave the fork at home.

I've never "et a bar". Is it as greasy as they say?
The rug would be cool, but my wife got rid of all my other pelts. She said they freaked her out.
The teeth and claws would make cool accessories.

Funny story....years ago I was on the AT for about a week with some friends. One night around the campfire, I was giving one of my buddies grief for only carrying a wittle-bitty j-frame. We were all harping on him telling him that .38 Special would only make a cat more angry and wouldn't even slow down a bear. He smirked and said, "I'm not shooting the bear, I'm kneecapping you so I don't have to run!"

We all laughed - primarily because we weren't altogether sure whether or not he was being honest.

Thanks to those of you with a serious answer to a serious question. My EDC is a .38 snubbie but I like a .357 or bigger revolver when in the woods. I was hoping someone might have some actual experience with bears and handguns.
