The smith has proved to be a solid offering over the years.

With the out of spec chambers, broken bolts, WAY oversized gas ports and proprietary parts the Ruger has proved to be a steaming pile of crap.


I like Ruger firearms, but I wouldn’t buy one of their AR offerings.

I have had both, mine went bang every time and never gave issues. I have seen both fail that friends owned and I have had both apart and repaired both, buy which ever one you want if you don't like it ,sell it and buy something else.

Both are good rifles for the money, but I'd take the Ruger because I've never had an issue sending something under warranty. Last time I sent something in they sent a new gun

Just pay attention to the specs on the S&W. Ruger only has a couple setups but you can find different barrel twists and whatnot on the S&W's.

I got the Ruger MPR and it’s a pretty awesome stock rifle. I have the sport too and I like the rugers fit, finish, and balance better. It’s decently accurate as well. Did a 2 MOA group for 5 shots at 100 with some crappy 55 grain FMJs. Should be able to tighten it up with some heavier, quality ammo.
