Hi,

I have just started reloading and have been getting and trying to get supplies for 5.56. Looks like good powder is on the unobtainum list. Since I'm new to this I might might be missing a place that is obvious to you all that might have stock even local brick and mortar stores in the Metro Atlanta and surrounding areas. If you know where i can find any of these below please let me know.

1) Alliant Reloader 15
2) Norma 203B
3) Hodgdon 335
4) Vihtavuori N140 or 135
5) Hodgdon H4895
6) Hodgdon Benchmark

Much appreciated
Gert

I’ve had good luck with TAC, meters like water, of course I haven’t seen any in stock in a year.
lately it’s been Vihtavuori N133 Just because the local Scheels has it in stock It seems to work just fine

Good luck brother. Add BL-C(2) to your list. You can try MEWE on the reloading groups, i got a pound of Hodgdon BL-C(2) and 2 pounds of Hodgdon Varget about a week ago.

north atlanta TruPrep has had powder the last few times i've been in, worth a call or a stop by to see what they have. usually not too crazy prices, especially if you are just looking for a pound or two to test.

Powder Valley is the best online source for powder. They have been getting more stuff in recently, follow them on facebook as they will post up when they receive a shipment. Pull the trigger quickly on the better stuff but they had a variety of rifle powders in last night when I checked.

RamShot TAC is nice as they give you 223 and 5.56 load levels. Varget is good as is H335 and BL-C(2)

My advice is to keep it simple and don’t go out any buy 5 or 10 different versions of rifle powder. First, it’s all marked up stupid and second, you may not even have the patience to work up and keep proper track of multiple powders.

Can you shoot on your property or are you having to drive a distance to pop a cap?

1lb (7000 grains divided by an average of 25 grains for 223) will get you around 280 live rounds but you’ve got to work loads up and dial them in for EACH rifle.... even just plinking you’ve got to work them up and you could have 10+ charge amounts per projectile weight.

If you shoot 223 and 308, you’d be surprised how well IMR3031 performs with a 150gr and 55gr projectile and I see it often on the shelves.

I’d recommend a powder that burns clean, easy to trickle, works in multiple calibers that you actually own.

I’m using

BLC(2)
CFE223
3031
H335
H322
VN135
Varget

And I wish I had just bought several kegs of 3031 instead for simplicity!
