Who here knows about exterior security cameras?

Not yet. Got side tracked. What is POE?
Power over Ethernet.
I have 6 of these outside my shop. They are amazing.

DVr will power the cameras over Ethernet that you make the ends of cables for.

This hard drive is the biggest for the money. 30$ or so a terabyte. Purple drives 5400rpm are specifically for CCTV.

Any night time screen shots? I want a couple high quality cameras for the driveway, normal cameras for everything else since I have motion lights mounted at my doors.

I'm not at work or I'd get you some. They are really awesome.
This isn't my picture but it's from the same camera. This was with the camera inside the building. This was a test of the camera my buddy did.

I use Arlo cams and rechargeable batteries. Work great, no fees and the app works great. Nice to be able to turn them on or off from anywhere i have cell or Wi-Fi service.

Just talked with a co-worker, he said he uses Lorex who is made by Flir. He showed me some live feed on his phone from his home and the picture is great. He said the app is straight forward and no issues with installation. So I guess Im going with Lorex. Not because any of the recommendations here were bad but because I saw it for myself on his phone. He also did the install himself and me and him are a lot alike so I know I’ll be good with it. Technology items like this always overwhelm me (as silly as it sounds) even for a 32 yr old. So talking first hand with someone whos got a product and is happy is good enough for me.

I would definitely go POE. This way you don’t have someone’s proprietary cables running through your house and you are able to use the same cables as you upgrade systems.

I have a Lorex 1080p POE setup that is about 4 years old. It’s fantastic. I am about to add two more cameras and a second hard drive to the NVR tomorrow.

I need to run some surveillance :peep::spy::peep:. I was planning on buying something from Best Buy since I have a $250 gift card but their Swann brand stinks in the CS and software dept. Can anyone make any recommendations? I know diddly squat about this kind of stuff. I'm planning on running a wired system since I'll be putting them at existing flood light locations. I'm in the process of getting know'd up but with our redneck powers combined...

I'm not an expert and I've never played one on TV.
I have been looking at using powerline ethernet adaptors at home because I'm renting and I can't be arsed to pull ethernet cable anymore.
You need an adaptor for your router and an adaptor for each device you're going to connect to the network. And you use the existing power line cables to transmit and recieve your TCP/IP signals. Click Here
You'd still want some offsite storage if you want to retain video evidence. Having the DVR in the house where the bad guys can find it presents some self explanatory problems.
I've also been looking at Nest and Ring for my house because the free lance socialists have discovered my area and are slowly moving in.
