Was re-watching 2 of my favorite movies this evening: Ocean's 11 (2001) and Ocean's 11 (1960). Completely forgot that in the original (1960) version Frank Sinatra ("Danny Ocean") says to Mrs. Ocean (Angie Dickinson): "I've got great news." Angie interrupts and replies, "Let me guess: Auburn beat Alabama by twelve points."

Given what an old s-o-b I now (50+) am, and, given what I can clearly remember of the 70's and 80's, I have to ask: how-in-the-hell did this line end up in this movie w/ Dean-o, Blue Eyes & Sammy Davis, Jr.?

I will greatly appreciate any light that anyone here can shed on this (for me) fascinating incident in American film (I mean, who even knew who Auburn & Alabama were in 1960?).

The movie was made in '59, probably written in '58.

In '58 Auburn had won the last 5 games. '54 28-0, '55 26-0, '56 34-7, and '57 40-0. In '58 the game was close 14-8, and in '59 the tide turned and for the next four years Auburn wouldn't score.
