We made em by removing a spoke, curling the wire to make the big end point in a desired direction. The bit end was female threaded where the spoke end screwed on, we'd remove it and screw it back on, backwards. We would push match heads in on the female threaded end, it would hold several match heads. The we'd load it with a single shot out of one of Daddy's shotgun shells. A 7 1/2 shot would fit nicely into the opening, we'd push it in it'd deform and be a press fit. Then to fire that puppy, we'd aim at something like a coke can and hold a lit match or lighter under the loaded spoke gun and it'd get hot enough to fire with a loud pop and that shot would penetrate one side on a coke can. Those were the days indeedy.
