Why are SCARs so freaking expensive?

Proven Outfitters, the retail store for Quantico Tactical, has new 16s for $2,699. That's the Mil/LE price.

The 17s is only $2,999. However, the lead time for the 17s is 12+ months. They state:

FN LE/Mil
SCAR 17s
Due to the high demand for the SCAR, current wait time for customers is averaging 12+ months. We cannot be more specific than this as small shipments arrive without notice and there is a lengthy waiting list. We do not charge your card until your order ships.

You may still order the item to be put on a waiting list. We do not charge your card until your order ships.

Sounds like it's a function of constrained supply. If you have one to sell, you can ask what you want until available supply increases.

They have put the brakes on civilian production in order to fill large MIL contracts around the globe (flat earthers get AR’s).

I do not know the validity of this claim, but I have seen it many many times online and heard it from quite a few FN reps at FN shoot days around GA.

@Recon1996 was with me at SHOT 2018 and at On Target in P’tree City when the last reps told us that.

Had both. Prefer my M1As. The stock on my 17 rattled like a damn kid's toy. They were $2,600 then and the stok on a $2,600 rifle ought not to rattle. M1A stock? I can beat the mother ****er to death with it.
They are cool looking rifles but what does it do that a Colt 6920 doesn’t do? Honest question.

I just don’t get it.

I mean they are awesome - they are crazy awesome. They are some of the most amazing magical gun experiences I have ever had - but the prices are just RIDICULOUS now.

And I’m not just bashing used prices on ODT - everywhere they are through the freaking roof!!!

Is there something that I am missing - like “oh FN just stopped manufacturing them”?

It wasn’t all that long ago that you could find them for like... a thousand bucks less than what they are going for now.

Has anyone actually SOLD one recently?
If you want a Ferrari don't expect to pay ford price for it. Just sayin
