I just don’t get it.
I mean they are awesome - they are crazy awesome. They are some of the most amazing magical gun experiences I have ever had - but the prices are just RIDICULOUS now.
And I’m not just bashing used prices on ODT - everywhere they are through the freaking roof!!!
Is there something that I am missing - like “oh FN just stopped manufacturing them”?
It wasn’t all that long ago that you could find them for like... a thousand bucks less than what they are going for now.
Has anyone actually SOLD one recently?
I have both the 16 and piston driven AR’s I prefer the 16 over my PWS’s, POF, BrenI can see the point to buying a 17 but not a 16, you can buy a piston driven AR15 for half the price and the performance will be about the same.
yah i'd buy a bren with an acr adapter first
If you price out what you get with the 16 vs a quality piston AR they are comparable in price.Agreed. I think the SCAR 16 is overpriced. I think some folks don't understand the difference between a .308 battle rifle and a piston AR.
Supply and demand sir.I mean I can’t deny the quality of the gun - I have shot both and loved both.
I might get my hands on one of them one day - but what gets me right now are the used market prices - and I guess I didn’t realize how much of a stranglehold on the market there was.
Granted - there are a few on Armslist that are a reasonable price - where the 16 (less value of accessories) comes out to being in the low $2000 range - but a lot of the ones on ODT have them up around $3000...
So it’s not so much a question of “why were the guns so expensive in the first place?” - it’s a question of “why are they that much more expensive on the used market?”
A couple years ago I was seeing people (as in friends/friends-of-friends not random people making claims on the internet) get 16s reliably new for the low 2000s and sometimes used for under 2k - and the 17s new for the mid 2000s
It just seems a bit odd that with the rest of the scary evil full semi automatic rifle market being down (even on other high end manufacturers), that the scar market is up.
but what gets me right now are the used market prices
When the optic alone is close to 3k lolLOL @ $9,000 for a SCAR. WTF?
Yours is actually a reasonable seeming price - if you took off the value of all the goodies (which is admittedly a crap ton of value - especially with one of the nicest scopes on the market) it brings your bare rifle down to a $2400-$2500 price (ish) which seems totally reasonable and feasible.Take my 17 that’s FS for example.
I’m asking 6k, but if you look up the prices of everything on it you’ll see it was closer to 9k
