Why didn't the Ruger SR556 ever really "catch on?"

A fix for really a non-existent issue at a premium upgraded price. Does it surprise anyone? And a fixed flash suppressor, really? Also heavier as well. Just a bit retarded by leaders unaware of their target audience.

I was really loving the looks of those rifles, the sr556 that is, well a guy we were shooting with just happened to pull one out. It was a nice rifle but I bet with just iron sights and a small red dot it had to be 10lbs+. Doesn't sound like much, but it's a lot more. I thought my PSA was heavy with a scope on it.... Nope!
The SR556e variant is a good bit lighter then the original. I actually just picked one up and love it. it is comparable in weight to my PSA (though it is a bit heavier, but that also has to do with forend material). it also seems to kick less then my PSA. All this being said, if i were to outfit one of my ar 15s with a weapon light and some heavy optics, it would be the psa.

After reading some comments, i went back and checked the product literature. its 7.36 lbs. i went ahead and weighed mine and came to 8.2lbs, but i have added a small crappy red dot, magpul moe grip and ctr stock w/ enhanced buttpad, single point sling attachment w/ sling and magpul B.A.D Lever
