When it comes to your rifle or new build, there is no lack of debates pertaining to setup. In this video, we'll look at some of the pros and cons of different optics and help you make the best decision for your needs.

Learn the benefits of using a scout scope (Vortex Viper PST Gen II 2-10x32mm) with top mount red dot versus the traditional LPVO and offset sight.

Well, I've been preaching this for a couple of years now and have been running a low mount LPVO in a 1.26" high Spuhr Noveske Shooting Team mount with a piggybacked MRDS. I use the red dot the vast majority of time out to 100 yards and then drop down to the scope for a good solid cheek weld for distance. I believe it is THE setup on a fighting rifle.

I would absolutely change to a mid magnification range scope, and have talked to a couple of optic companies about developing one for this specific purpose...it does not exist yet. The issue with your Vortex there is it SFP, and IMO, SFP does not belong anywhere on a fighting rifle. I do believe your theory about the setup however is spot on.

Is the viper PST 2-10 a SFP? Specs say FFP.

No experience with that particular optic..

And now you got me curious about the other models but looks like the 3-15 is heavy @ 28 ounces and though the description says Zero Stop I see nothing about locking turrets. My initial comment still stands, the MPVO that's needed doesn't exist yet.

The Eotech Vudu 3-15 is 33.6oz

Edit: nevermind. It’s 3.5-18 :p

Spot on thank you. Yeah, I tend to favor ffp as well. The only argument I would have for SFP is on a 1-6 because you can catch the illumination easier whereas with most FFP scopes you have to be right behind it. That being said the Parallax shift is so bad this is a moot point. I think 1x scopes are okay but a dot objectively does the job better. Also, I didn't check the weight on some 3-14 scopes so that also could have been a better option but wanted to just slightly bump the capability of the rifle. Great info thank you for sharing glad I am not the only one that likes this style of setup.
