Why do folks post "PM Sent" for offers less than asking?

I have never really understood why the hell people on here will post "PM Sent" on a listing when they are sending a pm with an offer for a lesser amount than the asking price.
Logically it makes no sense because it increases the chances of another seeing the ad (having just been bumped) who is willing to pay the asking price.
So, in short, I think "I'll take it, PM Sent" is the only way to go, otherwise its off the board with the pm alerts for me...
Anyone agree with this thinking or have I missed something somewhere?

Well if they send a PM then other folks don't see them trying to screw you out of your goods. You know it is. Other folks don't want to be seen trying to steal something.

I think what the OP is saying is why bother to post "pm sent ". You only send the post to the top of the list where other buyers will see it and possibly outbid you. Just send the pm and see what happens. It's illogical to send a pm and post "pm sent".

Tactics. It doesn't favor the low baller to have other people, who might offer asking price, to see an inadvertently bumped ad. Posting "ill take it" or "PM sent" does not obligate them to sell it to you.
