Why do you guys have several guns of the exact same model?

My Glock of choice is G23. It's the perfect size for concealment and handles better than the subcompacts, which don't conceal any better than a compact once you add pinky extension to the mag. So, since I'm sold on G23 and it's barrel options, I have 2 of them and am considering adding a 3rd. One to carry, one by the bed, possibly one in the car. Might as well have handy what I'm used to.

AR-15s...I have 11 of them. I justify this with different optics though the quick release mounts have me seriously questioning this logic. Only one is a pistol and only one is other than 5.56/.223. Somehow they are all different enough though. But I could probably trim the 5.56 bunch down to 4 or 5 favorites and not be missing anything.

Don't even get me started on 12 gauge shotguns. I can't justify those at all except I like them.

One for each family member, loaners for class guns such as this Satur. when a cheap 1911 (again after being worked on) would not make it through one mag. w/o a major stoppage so the student ran a spare 19 the rest of the day w/o a single malfunction.

My whole family is very familiar with & has their own G-19. In the event that anyone has to borrow, pickup, use someone elses there will be no hesitation or any lack of proficiency on knowing how to run the gun.

In addition, just like L.E. & most military, in addition to everyone being trained w/ the same platform, there is commonality of spare parts, ammo, magazines, holsters, etc.

Also the primary could go down or be lost or stolen... one is none, two is one... and three is even better.

As I've repeated on here so many times, "Beware the man who owns one gun... he probably knows how to use it."

I've consistently seen better performance, both in accuracy as well as manipulations by the person who spends most of their time running either one gun or at least one style of gun.
Conversely, some of the worst exhibitions of skill on my range as well as at others I've witnessed have been by the "serial swappers" who can't or won't settle on one style or brand of pistol.

Also, as happened to me at the very beginning of my training odyssey when I woke up from a dead sleep to realize someone was in my house, a dangerous situation is no time to not be sure which gun you have that week or be intimately.... INSTINCTIVELY familiar w/ how to run it.

After the break-in I setout to get the best training I could find & promised myself to settle on one system of pistol & master it to have the best chance possible to survive if it ever happened again.

Although training others requires being familiar/ proficient w/ all types of firearms I spend as much time as possible staying proficient with the one I carry daily.

I buy what I like, I've got multiple SP2022s, P229s, and G19s. They are what I love. I've got them all in different colors or styles. Girls accessorize with jewelry, I do it with guns. :p

I certainly understand if they are collectible or have sentimental value, but why would someone have 2 exact same model Glock 19s? (I only have one) Just an example.

And this is 'Merica and you can have a personal arsenal and I say go for it! Just don't quite get having 2 of the same when there are so many awesome guns out there and I assume most of us have somewhat limited budgets.

never understood myself.

Some folks that compete or take a lot of training classes will have one for carry purposes and one setup exactly the same for competition or training. There are some folks that go a step farther and have three of the same so there's a backup to the other two dedicated purposes.

Then there are the folks that just like that particular gun and want to collect variations of the same model. At one time I had four Model 12 S&W's, for example.

two clone bolt guns. one 6.5 to practice. one in a hot 6mm for matches/ fast and flat with less recoil. but smokes barrels 1k rds sooner. im all about clone. have clone xdms. doing it the same right way every time is the name of any game
