I don't know if I would pay a premium but if I find two guns the same shape and the same price. I will buy the one with no paperwork!
 
And if a dealer closes their doors these records go where?

To the ATF...Some speculate the ATF enters those records into a database. It would be a very out of date and incomplete database though. They would need every dealer's Acquisition & Disposition books in order to trace a firearm from manufacturer to dealer to the customer.

I would be more concerned about the report of multiple sales of a handgun form a dealer must complete if someone purchases 2 or more handguns within 5 days. That form is sent directly to the ATF and the local chief law enforcement officer after a transfer. You are most definitely added to some fed database....
