Why is everyone AFRAID TO SHIP A FIREARM?!

So what would be the difference in receiving it from FFL as apposed to receiving it from another member? Aside from that, how do you think firearms get to your local gun shop? Or any other place where they are licensed to sell firearms? I think it safe, just to make sure you can add delivery conformation, insurance, ect...

Oh I dunno. I dont go through FFLs. The FFLs around here try to rob you with their 40-50 dollar FFL fees. I dont roll like that. Just trying to help answer your question. Ill ship anything if someone pays for the shipping.

Exactly $40-50 to sign a paper, it is robbery.
I was referring to mailing the firearm. It still goes through the mail if it is shipped to an FFL or individual.

I don't order guns or do FFL transfers on guns. All the guns I want, and can afford, I find at local shops and on ODT. I understand that the local shops and various members have guns shipped to them but that is their call. I would just rather have something tangible in my hand when I pay for it. I honestly don't really like shipping or ordering hardly anything, not just guns. I'd rather go to American Eagle and buy a pair of jeans in their store than order them online even if the shipping was free.

I don't ship for a few reasons:1. I want to inspect the gun before I hand over the money.92. I like to have it in hand when I pay for it and not wait for it to show up.3. Like soviet said I don't trust the shipping companies for something that expensive.I understand your dilemma tho NIXON
What's not to trust?I ship several billion dollars of delicate network equipment and tools all over the world via ups and fedex every year. Literally thousands upon thousands of packages every year, and to date they have never lost or damaged one. If I can trust UPS with a box full of 2 thousand dollar voip gateways, I can certainly trust them with a 1022.If you are concerned about it, pay the extra buck fifty and insure the package, then it doesn't matter if they lose it.If I didn't drive all over the state for work, I don't think I would ever do ftf deals. Anymore then about 20 miles isn't worth a ftf once you factor in gas prices and the value of your time.

Its is a pain with they lose a package though. I guess it happens to me more than anybody else :(. Ill ship I dont mind. Just really depends on if im busy and work and if they will pony up the dough. The main factor for ME not shipping is people not wanting to pay the shipping.

We all like to have whatever it is we buying in our hand when we pay for it. When that is not possible, shipping is an alternative. That is the point I am trying to make.

I live in South Georgia so most of the deals on here are 3-4 hours away. However, for a truly good deal, I will travel if the seller won't ship and did so this past Sunday to meet a fellow ODTer and pick up a new "toy".

However, I have no problems shipping anything, including firearms. My other hobby, which is just as expensive, is paintball. I've shipped high end markers all over our country as well as to Europe and Canada. I use Paypal all the time and have done many thousands of dollars worth of transactions. One thing that works out great for me is that my wife's company uses UPS and covers my shipping.

It's rather simple to use PayPal and NOT use the "gift" option. The Gifting option is bad because it leaves the buyer no recourse of action should the seller decide not to ship. Instead, use a PayPal calculator like this one: http://ppcalc.com/ and just add in the fees. So, if you're selling a gun for $500 cash, it would be $515.25 PayPaled and you still end up with the same amount.

For shipping, go to the UPS site and figure in shipping. You can print a label and request a pick up from their site. You can even request signature confirmation. If it's not a firearms, USPS is even easier with flat rate boxes and labels can be printed right out of PayPal. Oh, and USPS boxes are free, they'll send them right to your house and YOU CAN use them with UPS. UPS really doesn't care. I do it all the time.

So, say I'm going to sell a holster for $50 FTF. I know I can get the holster in a small flat rate box, and the cost for that is $5.35. So, that would be $55.35 plus paypal fees, which using the PayPal calculator site, tells me I would need $57.31 so I just round up to $58. So, $50 FTF or $58 shipped. Heck, I may even add $2 to round it out to $60 and make a little more for virtually no hassle.

I understand that's the point your making and my answers have been my reasoning for not shipping. For me my desire to have the item in my hand when payment is received trumps the negatives of FTF transactions. This is just how I feel and don't see it changing anytime soon.
