Why is everyone AFRAID TO SHIP A FIREARM?!

Here's my take on it.
I have a Sig Sauer SP 2022 9mm that the slide was failing to re engage after being fired, I called Sig and they provided me with a next day air UPS shipping label and told me to box it up and send it to them, Saturday (1/29/12) at 1:26 PM I dropped the pistol off at UPS, Monday I check tracking and it's still at the UPS I dropped it of at, I figure it was the weekend and they are just slow.

Tuesday comes so I check the tracking # again, it's still where I dropped it off at, so now I'm a little nervous and decided to call the UPS I dropped it off at and they tell me that it's been picked up and that the driver forgot to scan it, that sounds real fishy to me so I call the customer service line, they tell me that it's got to still be where I dropped it off at.

Now I'm really nervous, so I call them back, lady promises me it's been shipped out, I'm not giving up though until someone finds my pistol!
I then call the customer service line again and tell them I want a tracer put on the package, he tells me that since I'm not the actual shipper of it (Sig is) that they will have to call for the tracer, by now I'm livid!!

So I call the customer service rep at Sig because he gave me his direct line and tell him the situation.
His response " Do not worry Mr Barrs, you call me back on Friday and if we haven't found the pistol, we'll send you a brand new one"
Now I don't care if it's lost, kinda hope it is.

Get up Wednesday morning and check the tracking #, well much to my surprise, it shipped out of the UPS I dropped it off at Tuesday night at 7:35PM and arrived in NH yesterday morning at 10:00am. From the very same UPS that had promised me it was already shipped...

If it wasn't under warranty I would never shipped it and now after this experience, I don't think I ever will again.

Long read and I'm sorry.

I understand you have a bad experience, but if we stop doing things because of a bad experiences are we left with? i.e. I just had a car accident, so from now on I am just not going to drive anymore. Does it make any sense to you? Everyone has an off day, but the package still got to where it needed to be, even if it took a little more time.;)

I could be shipping to a 12 year old kid for all I know.
I want to see a gfl and ID

I am not talking about shipping to 12 year old kids. Just because they have a GFL and ID/DL, Doesn't mean they; they have good intentions with the firearm or that they haven't become a became a felon after getting their GFL. Can you tell by looking at their GFL/DL whether they are a felon or what their intentions are? My question is, why are PPL scared or intimidated, ect, when it come to shipping firearms? Even if it was a 12 year old trying to get a firearm, you could just have an adult signature required at delivery.

I'm not afraid to. .. I just don't care enough to. There are enough people around my neck of the woods that I don't need to ship. I can FTF while running another errand.

Nothing to do with fear. I ain't selling a firearm to anyone that's not standing in front of me.

I going to look the person eye to eye, swap cash or other items, and be done with it.

I want to meet, talk to, and look the person in the eyes whom I'm about to sell a firearm to. I want to make sure they're a GA resident and over 21. I can't do that through UPS. Simple as that.

Not afraid, not intimidated, it's my own personal preference to meet face to face.

Like I said; What if a FTF is not possible? What then? I am not talking about shipping it to your next door neighbor.

For me its the problem with very picky people. Ill tell you about my gunsamerica problem. Sold a gun on there. Sent over 20 pictures. Yes, 20. Everything was good. Sent him the rifle. Sure enough 3 days later... he wanted a refund saying there was a inch long scratch that I did not take a picture of (I actually did , there were 2 pictures of it). Well sure enough he reports it to gunsamerica after I refused to eat the shipping costs. They tried to charge my credit card for the amount. I reported it to my bank, they stopped payment and I was banned from guns america. Long story short, if I can avoid all that hassle I will. If someone pays extra for shipping then I will. They will be told I dont except refunds. Thus for I take many pictures. So with all that being said, I understand why some people choose not to ship.

Sounds good to me! Just let them know what the conditions are before the transaction is complete. No need to stop shipping.

I feel you, I am active duty military and I am going to school. Not to mention the kids, sometimes its just easier to box it up and schedule a pick up.
