Why is everyone AFRAID TO SHIP A FIREARM?!

haha^ I had a guy on here who had a shotgun for sale in south GA and I asked if I could pay with paypal and have him ship it, I even offered to have UPS pick it up since I have a UPS account, you would have thought I asked him to go on a date with his wife, I didn't argue but could understand why he was so upset that i asked him to ship the gun......
I use PP all the time, as long as it is done discreetly there is no problem. It is also more convenient and faster then a MO or check in the mail.

Handguns require FFL.
NOPE COMPLETELY LEGAL...

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.
[18 U.S.C. 922(a)(2)(A), 922(a) (3), 922(a)(5) and 922(e), 27 CFR 478.31 and 478.30]

Ill ship if its to a member with great feedback. Only problem is I dont trust the mail system. When they lose something its a PITA. Also many people dont want to cough up the extra dough for the shipping cost. Plus a lot of people want to pay with paypal . I dont do paypal. Post office money order is cool. It would have to not hurt me if im going to ship.

Yup. Point in case....baaaaaaaa.

A little bit of a RANT here...

I love this site and do a lot of business here, but as we all know down here in SE AREA most of the action is the other neck of the woods. I see a lot of ADs that I like but most of the time (99%) is a NO_GO because everyone is either AFRAID, INTIMIDATED, ECT... when it comes to shipping firearms. I have shipped a few firearms here in GA and a couple on this site, never had a problem. It is LEGAL and most of the time CHEAP, certainly a lot cheaper the driving 4 hours round trip for a trade or sale. It is simple to take your firearm but it in a box, add an address and drop it of at the courier (some couriers will even pick it up at your location)? As I mentioned before it beats driving 4 hours round trip. IT IS SERVICE TO YOUR DOOR NO FFL REQUIRED... What else could you ask for?
I don't ship but it's not the convenience or cost of shipping that causes me concern...it's getting, and more importantly, keeping the sales proceeds. I've heard many bad stories about sellers getting paid via one method or another and having the money go bad in one way or another. I've passed up many full price (or higher) offers because of being not willing to ship. I had one of those full price offers last night but passed on it.

Also, I enjoy the FTF meetings and the conversations that result. I'm sorry I don't get to do that with our members in other areas.

Hopefully there will be some responses to this thread that will cause me to change my mind.

I have shipped and had shipped. Normally if the buyer/seller has a few transactions with positive feedback I feel comfortable with it. I have used paypal as well as a personal check. I guess I probably should at least get a money order. I live in South Ga everywhere is at least 2 hours from me and it seems folks are wanting to travel less and less. I realize one day I will get burned but untill then its the easiest thing to do.

One would have to have some excellent feedback for me to be willing to ship. Having dealt with someone claiming to paypal that they had not received a good I shipped (not gun) and having paypal basically have a policy of believing the buyer until I proved otherwise was a pain in the booty!

I have no problem with an MO or even a personal check, as for the extra $$ to ship, that I dont get. It is cheaper to ship when compared to driving 100+ miles.

yeah you would think that. Some people just dont want to pitch in the extra dough. Stupid I know but I have had that discussion with many people and the deal was never made because they did not want to pay extra to have it shipped.

Delivery conformation, insurance and signature required at delivery should cover you, PP will not refund you for a firearm.
