Why is everyone AFRAID TO SHIP A FIREARM?!

If it was something I needed then of course I would have it shipped. I have shipped things before and will probably do it again but its been small inexpensive things. I would just rather not if I could help it.
I underatand your position completely. While I will ship anything if buyer is willing to cover shipping, it would be a very rare case for me to have somebody ship a gun to me. I like to inspect a gun before I pay for it. Ammo and accessories I would rather ship or have shipped and not deal with driving.

I am glad that everyone has had good experiences w/ the various shipping companies.

This is why I will not ship guns: several years ago I bought some items of about $125 value from a guy in Florida off E-bay. He shipped and UPS showed delivery on X day and remarked that it was left in the carport, I don't have a carport and never have. UPS refused to refund the man's money and after a long and heated battle w/ both UPS and Paypal, I finally agreed to pay $50 to have them re-shipped. I have had this happen several times both shipping and having things shipped to me from UPS. Every time we have worked it out one way or the other, but it is a hassle. Just recently, I shipped two magazines from Newnan to Flowery Branch. After sending them to Jacksonville Fl they finally arrived in Flowery Branch 13 days later. I had delivery confirmation so I was able to track the package. Now, the man from Flowery Branch was supposed to ship 2 magazines back to me and claims he did on 01/11-- I still have not received them as of today. Apparently he did not get delivery confirmation, as he hasn't offered me any tracking information. So, do I trust the shipper that he did in fact ship the magazines and iron sights and assume that I am just out of money or raise a stink and not trust him and demand some kind of compensation? Because USPS won't do anything for me. Granted w/ delivery confirmation and/or insurance life would have been easier, but what is done is done and I can't make him go back and get them. So from my experiences w/ dealing w/ shipping companies, I am going to have to say no thank you to shipping a firearm.

Can turn into issues. Person A ships a gun and Person B gets it and says it not what was agreed. Goes on from there.
If it's face to face, both parties can just walk away with no $ exchanged.

I can not believe that shipping a gun (pistol or rifle) is as easy as box it up, print a label, and UPS will come to your door to pick it up - no questions asked....really?

Why does value come into play? If the buyer wants insurance, they can pay for it. If you offer them insurance and they say no, then whatever happens to the package is on them.

Because if it gets lost or damaged then replacement won't cost much for whichever party has to do so. Shipping is an element of the equation that none of us can control.

Really. I have shipped AR15's to New York FFLs this way, a 1911 to a Kentucky FFL this way, and long guns in state this way.

Yes, really. It is that easy.
Wow...I'm amazed. I must confess I was under the impression that pistols had to go through an FFL but that long guns could be shipped person-to-person. My decision not to ship however was never based on legality but more of hassle for me...knowing this, I might rethink that.

So let me ask this then...if I can ship person to person, why can't the companies ship to me? Why do they have to go through an FFL?

Companies can ship to you as long as it is not a firearm. Firearms from FFLs will require you to be onsite in person with ID to fill out a 4473.
