Why is everyone AFRAID TO SHIP A FIREARM?!

If I ship I don't get to meet the member and talk with them at the meet. I won't ship a firearm because its a hassle, I don't get to meet the member, and I can't inspect the gun I'm getting. Call me lazy or scared or whatever you want but I still won't ship a firearm

Nothing to do with fear. I ain't selling a firearm to anyone that's not standing in front of me.

I going to look the person eye to eye, swap cash or other items, and be done with it.

Arrgh ! You old timers !

Me too ! You nailed it Chuckdog, as you always do !

Exactly my point, they ship anything and everything, but mention a "firearm" and they $hit a pelican. I have no problem shipping anything in the mail. It is easy and cheap in most cases. I ship a LOT mainly on other sites, optics, handguns, uppers, ect.. never had a problem

" ... but mention a "firearm" and they $hit a pelican ... "

Be officially informed. I am stealing this expression.
Thank you very much.

I am glad that everyone has had good experiences w/ the various shipping companies.

This is why I will not ship guns: several years ago I bought some items of about $125 value from a guy in Florida off E-bay. He shipped and UPS showed delivery on X day and remarked that it was left in the carport, I don't have a carport and never have. UPS refused to refund the man's money and after a long and heated battle w/ both UPS and Paypal, I finally agreed to pay $50 to have them re-shipped. I have had this happen several times both shipping and having things shipped to me from UPS. Every time we have worked it out one way or the other, but it is a hassle. Just recently, I shipped two magazines from Newnan to Flowery Branch. After sending them to Jacksonville Fl they finally arrived in Flowery Branch 13 days later. I had delivery confirmation so I was able to track the package. Now, the man from Flowery Branch was supposed to ship 2 magazines back to me and claims he did on 01/11-- I still have not received them as of today. Apparently he did not get delivery confirmation, as he hasn't offered me any tracking information. So, do I trust the shipper that he did in fact ship the magazines and iron sights and assume that I am just out of money or raise a stink and not trust him and demand some kind of compensation? Because USPS won't do anything for me. Granted w/ delivery confirmation and/or insurance life would have been easier, but what is done is done and I can't make him go back and get them. So from my experiences w/ dealing w/ shipping companies, I am going to have to say no thank you to shipping a firearm.

Maybe you just have very bad luck ?

I will pray for you.

I can not believe that shipping a gun (pistol or rifle) is as easy as box it up, print a label, and UPS will come to your door to pick it up - no questions asked....really?

What kind of world do you live in ?

Is your Star yellow ? Do you have oxygen there ?

Just curios .

When I had my C&R license I did a bunch of trades, always shipping with UPS. I'd print a call tag and box it up. Never a problem.

But lately I haven't been listing the fact that I could ship....I reckon I'll start adding that to my listings.

Ups being a private carrier they have no reason to open your package unless stealing it. USPS on the other hand has been known to X-ray. And they are federal so I usually avoid the man

Have not read all the reasons.......but.....shipped a PPK back to Smith. They issued a call tag and I boxed it up. Was then told by local FEDEX that they would not ship. Called Fedex and was told to ship it 20 miles away. Called them to make sure they would ship before driving, was told to call Fedex and ask a rep to clarify. Rep called local Fedex to tell them it was OK, local refused again. Hauled it 20 miles to be told that I would have to unpack it and prove that it was unloaded. Mgr came out and told the counter girl that he had already talked to me and that she should ship it. I get it back tomorrow, someone over the age of 21 must be here to sign.
That being all said...that's a lot of hassle just to ship a gun back to the maker. And that's with them being nice enough to pay the freight!
