Why is everyone ditching the 300 BO

Not if you're loading them correctly. After 9", a properly loaded 300BLk sub will have no further acceleration because all of the powder has been burned. In fact, in a 16" barrel, a 300BLK sub will be slower than it will in a 9" barrel due to friction from the rifling. This part of what gives people issues with cycling subs in a 16" barrel without the additional back pressure afforded by a suppressor.
Haven't started my loading yet but looking for as much information as possible. Waiting on suppressor. I am guessing that you are using strictly pistol powders to get the full burn in 9 inches???

Yessir. A good load has already been posted in this thread. I love LilGun for 300 subs. H110 is also very good.

If you only have a .30cal supressor like me then you need BO. I never wanted/needed the caliber until I got my suppressor, but man those subsonics are awesome. Maybe once I get a .45 cal can I won’t care for it anymore?

Also, it makes some sense if you are already invested in 5.56, all you need is a new upper.

Penetration is questionable with 300BO, but a long skinny 200gr 30cal bullet is going to penetrate deeper into an animal than a short fat pistol round of the same weight and velocity. For hunting suppressed I would pick 300BO over any of the pistol rounds.

I’m still liking 300BO. I think most folks without a suppressor get into it just because of the novelty, and it looks like a nasty round, then they find it too expensive to shoot regularly.

MAKE "SPECIAL" for 300 Sub-sonic -AND- ur particular bl. Length! This co. makes the sub-sonic stuff for MILITARY via govt Contract! ESPECIALLY EFFECTIVE! EXTREMELY accurate (verified). Other "%#@$" crap I seen/used? ALL (except one) have serious Down-sides!! ...effective but not accurate... accurate but no expansion - AT ALL! ... etc., etc..

It could have something to do with the popularity of 7.62x39 AR variants such as the KS47. I really dunno, but I'm currently comparing the two to make a decision.

ATLdude: REally CANT compare! U MUST KEEP everything in perspective! If u hv AR PARTS (extra Lower, etc - and who doesnt nowadays. heh) -and want to use them - BUT - opt to move up to something compared to AK, not 5.56... 300BLKOUT CHEAPEST WAY to put it all to GREAT use, get into 30cal. totally economically. I simply bought a 300BLKOUT UPPER, on sale, complete, for a FLAT $148 from RADICAL FIREARMS... DONE! INCLUDED S&H!! Its COOL AS HELL!! Green Mtn bl. = accurate! (AND IT IS!! ENTIRELY!!) enuff said... Let the "debates" start from here... But I PERSONALLY did *NOT* want to get involved in a complete AK PLatform (maintenance, parts, ammo, etc.). If u do - then BUY A NEW AK - NOT the 300... I have my investment in AR... wanted to stay that way!

and I DID! ;) for better or worse, than - I achieved MY objective!! AND - the 300BKLOUT - is AWESOME!! MY "go to" now, intead of my AR. Can NOW shoot HOG, too. couldnt b4 (comfortably).

SO. LIFE IS ABT "KEEPING IT ALL IN PERSPECTIVE". WONT NEVER MAKE SENSE IF U DONT. :victorious:

I have a 300 BLK Suppressed SBR. I don’t shoot it, but I have it.

I probably haven’t had it out of the safe in 3 years.

So AAC partnered with some in the community to develop a .30 caliber round that would hit harder than 9mm and function in a short barreled M4. The result is the 300BLK.

AAC copied the .300 Whisper from JD Jones to avoid having to pay him a licensing fee (see posts above) The only people they partnered with were their lawyers. Then they got better publicity from all the gun rags and Soldier of Fortune type mags who failed to emphasize this little bit of history.

Jones developed the round for wildlife control in urban areas - the special ops/ninja warrior stuff always makes a good story, but it just ain't so.

The two rounds are interchangeable in most guns.

Checked my inventory and only have blue dot and unique pistol power. Will have to get some Lilgun and H110 when I can find it. I had some H110 but used it all. Everyone was out last time I tried to get some.

Lastly, as to the 300BLK just "copying the 300 Whisper"...eh, you're kind of right, but not really. 300 Whisper was/is a wildcat round and didn't have any SAAMI data. - because it costs thousands of dollars to develop SAAMI specifications and Jones didn't want to pay the costs.

There are any number of proprietary rounds that have no SAAMI specs - falls into the "so what" category.

BO is a copy of the Whisper.

SAAMI doesn't "sign off" - the manufacturer has to do all the testing, and submit the data and specifications to SAAMI. Same as UL for electrical products. It costs thousands of dollars to get UL certification. It's not like you can say "I have this really cool idea and I want to have SAAMI specs."

And technically the 300 whisper's parent cartridge is a .221 Fireball while the 300BLk's parent case is .223 Remington.

The .22i Fireball is based on the .222 Remington, as it the .223 Remington, aka 5.56 X 45 NATO. So TECHNICALLY, they are based on the same cartridge.
