That used to be called a profit (and the secret is - that's how we make payroll!) Shhhhh!!! Don't tell nobody cuz they might get all pissy.

I don't think the op was railing against capitalism. There is a big difference between making a profit and taking advantage of people.
 
A friend of mine used to have a booth at a flea market where he would sell old soda bottles that he dug up out of his back yard, among other things. He had one bottle marked at $1. Some guy talked him down to 50 cents for it. Then, he went down a few booths and sold it for $200. My fried was mad. He wasn't mad that the guy got $200 for the bottle. If he knew where to turn a profit, that was fine with my friend. What my friend was mad at was that the guy wouldn't pay him the full $1 that he had marked on the bottle to begin with.
