Why so many locked threads in classifieds?

Just curious....maybe trying to curtail banter or openly negotiating? I just respond via pm whether I am interested in something or selling something. No biggie but have noticed this more than usual.

I posted a few locked and only because I did it quickly while on the phone... I then unlocked my thread and let the comments bump my item until it sold shortly after.

Maybe they lock the threads because of all the scrotum scratchers that don't know the rules.
