Same is true for the UK. A few years back I remember reading that a constable was 'executed' in a grenade attack. I started reading up and it seems that grenades are actually easier to find for sale in 3rd world countries than guns are (the locals use their guns).

They are also simple to make and easier to smuggle, or even manufacturer in place, than a firearm typically is.
