Winchester 94 30-30 loading issues

When I load the tube magazine through the side, the cartridge slips back where I cannot get the little trap door to open again until I chamber the round.
If I am really careful I can push with another round before the 1st enters completely And then I can load more.
What is broken?

Well a little Google research says that that is normal for Winchesters. I guess I am just used to Marlins

I just hold the loading gate down 1/2 way with one thumb, while I grab the next bullet to load, or load each bullet 1/2 way while I grad the next bullet to push them in with.

Best method is to leave previous round sticking out enough to hold gate down until you have all your rounds in and push last one all the way. works on marlins too.

Mine did this. The gunsmith told me the shell stop had broken. Never did get it fixed because I couldn’t find the part. Apparently over the years they changed the design of the part and I couldn’t find one to fit.
