And a burnt stock. Let it cool and then take a wire brush and sand it and see how well it looks after that. YouTube has plenty of videos of people doing it on pine. They also use a bigger torch.
The wood is blotchy in some areas but birch usually is with finish anyhow.
As of right now the burning is inconsistent. This is probably due to lack of experience and the wood. So trial and error here. I might have to go back over it in some areas. Just have to see.
So the wood has been hit with a wire brush and sanded worhnan orbital sander and worn out 80 grit paper.
The spots that are black seem to be staying that way as one would expect.
However the areas that did not blacken certainly took color and have held it.
At this point I believe the plumbers torch gives the heat in a to confined manner. The torch’s that run of propane tanks and give a wider heat dispersion would be a better option in my opinion at this point for several reasons. And more practice!!! So the principle of the idea works. Having the right torch I think I would make it all the more possible. I am going to play with the stock some more and look for some fresh sandpaper to work over the stock with.
