Wood turning

A buddy of mine has a lathe and he's been teaching me to use it.

We found a few oak burls and made some bowls recently.

First thing I ever made:


We turned this one yesterday as a gift for my wife's boss.





Not gonna lie... I'm kinda proud of that one.

Harvested some burls from a buddy's land today. We got a pretty good haul.
Now I got to find the time to do something with them.

I turn game calls (mostly duck calls) in the winter. Little to hot in the garage this time of year.View attachment 1677413

All I’ve ever done is duck calls but want to try a chess set for my old man. A lot of carving involved though.

Some work done yesterday. Mullberry, Bradford Pear, and staved container is Cherry.

I have a ton or two of bowl blanks (really) that I will give away free. PM with your phone number if you want some.

It is a hobby (aka mental illness)...I give everything away. My camera is on the rag
