Kars 4 Kids has been around since the 90s and it is a charity run by and for Orthodox Jews in New England. It is a fundraising campaign for Oorah (https://www.oorah.org/). Outside of their operating expenses they pretty much fund private education for the Orthodox Jewish community in NY, NJ, CT, and DC.
The charity isn't for "poor kids", it is a charity started to fund private education, although they do provide summer camps, school supplies, coats and clothing, and food to lower-income communities.
