I have a P38 pistol that was an American GI's war trophy. With it is the paperwork authorizing him to bring it home. I also have lot's of his service history paperwork.

Any idea how much the documents add to the value of the pistol? He wasn't famous, just a buck sergeant in the AAF.

To me, the documentation of this gun history as a World War II bring back of a captured German pistol would add a few hundred dollars to the guns value.

There are many such pistols in circulation in the USA that were legally brought in to the US this way. My dad brought back a couple himself (P-08 Luger and a little .25 pocket pistol) but the paperwork for these tends to get lost. Nobody ever asked to see it once the gun is legally in the USA; it can be bought, sold, and traded without any further need for these Army / import papers.
