Since, this is all theoretical, it omits the fact that I'm building my only gun at the moment. That being said, it would really depend on my starting and heading. Being outside the city and somewhat urban area, a decent rifle AR/AK along with a shotgun would do well for defending my area for a while.
While I have no military or law enforcement training, I do believe that the environment you're in will dictate you're weapons along with a planned destination. Speaking for myself, I think in an up close confrontation, I'd have a better chance of defending myself with a shotgun than a pistol. Nerves along with lack of combat training would not do so well for my aim.

After reading some of the posts...
I'd probably carry 5 or 6 preloaded 9mm mags, as many P-mags as would fit in my old LBE vest, and about a 1,000 rounds of mini-mags for the converted P226. The reality is that I'm only going to survive so many fire fights so avoiding them would be paramount.
