Just going to say on average my extended backpacking trips 15-30+miles, my pack usually hovers around the 60-80lb mark. If I'm not mistaken the typical military pack is like 80ish lbs, correct me if I'm wrong guys....
Ok
1,000 rounds of 5.56 is right at 27lbs
And 1,000 rounds of 7.62x39 is right at 37 lbs...
So if someone was dead set on carrying 1,000 rounds for their rifle, with proper planning it could easily be done.
but, I could carry 4k rounds of 22lr vs 1k rounds of .223 for about 1/10th the cost and as far as 7.62 goes, you're talking about 6k rounds assuming you're going witht he 555 packs. 6k rounds is a lot of shooting my friend. Granted center of mass and such won't be very effective, but head shots will definitley be effictive. The right optics cowitnessed with irons on a 22 and you have a man killer capable of killing farm animals, wild game, etc. Granted you know there will be ammo to be found, but not in stores where you can buy it. When the battlefield supplies run out, it will come to a who has more ammo deal. If you're using your 223 as an all around gun, you're dropping several squirres, rabbits etc aday, fighting off enemies, that 1000 rounds will go quick.
