I have several, and have had several 45's. Every one I've ever owned has been a good shooter. I've owned a Glock 41, Glock 30, HK USP USP fullsize and compact, FNP Tactical, Springfield XDS, and a Colt Defender. I currently have a Glock 21 SF, Glock 30S, Sig 1911 Nightmares fullsize and carry, HK Mark 23, Colt 1911(WW1), and a S&W Shield.

The Shield is great little EDC. I was shooting with a couple of Hamilton County (TN) Swat guys one day. They were running drills with their G35's at 50yds. I took out my Shield 45 to see if I could even hit the plate that far, and I put all 6 rds on the plate at 50yds. For the money the Shield is hard to beat, IMHO.

I've shot the Commander and Officer's Models (each 20-year old models, not recent production).
They were good, but still not as light as I'd like for daily carry.

I hear Colt has an alloy-framed "DEFENDER" 1911 that is available in both 9 mil and .45, and it's pretty short in length, but it's nearly as TALL as any other 1911, and it uses 7-round magazines.

It weighs 24 oz. empty.

If concealment is your concern, rather than just weight, the grip frame of a handgun is the hardest part to keep concealed. For that, the Kimber sub-compact 1911's are great. I've fired the RAPTOR model, one of their compact 1911's, and it was a sweet shooter. It weighs 25 oz, per the website.

My current “most compact” .45; a John Harrison custom built on an STI Ranger II. Lotsa goodies on this one, my favorite being the Stan Chen magwell. John cut the bottom of the frame off and welded the magwell on. The finished length is the same as a standard 1911, but with the added advantage of a magwell. She’s a sweet shooter.

When I retire this will become my EDC. It would be my duty gun if I had a choice.

Most of my life only shot 1911s and CZ75s. Tried about every Glock out there. Never liked them. Tried a S&W M&P about 2 years ago and for me they point and shoot like a 1911.

I'm a 1911 guy, only Glock i liked was the 30sf. My carry is a Kimber master carry ultra and a S&W 442. I also like the CZ p-09 buts it's too big for me to conceal in warmer weather
