WOW. went to bed woke to with 50 replies. I havnt read them all yet. But I'm sure all my answers are here lol
I was with a motorcycle club in IL in the mid-1970s that sponsored lots of AMA youth MX races. Was an AMA District 17 congressman.
Good family environment, good sportsmanship, VERY DANGEROUS, I would not let my kids/grandkids participate. Witnessed many near fatalities. One kid crashed, thought he was OK, loaded up, went home, into the hospital with internal bleeding about 12 hours later, nearly died. You need VERY DEEP pockets and an excellent Major Medical insurance policy THAT DOESN'T EXCLUDE ORGANIZED RACING from coverage.
Don't want to scare anyone, just pointing out the facts. Is it exciting?? VERY, require top notch conditioning, YOU BET, think it looks fun and easy....go take about a dozen running jumps off your garage roof, landing on 2 feet with your knees as shock absorbers, that's what MX is like. Had a great time, but it is a hazardous, expensive sport.
