First let me say that I have never in my two years as a member on ODT provided negative feedback against any ODT member.
I also need to say that after the initial trade occurred with Dan this past Tuesday morning, I left a positive reference for him as I had not yet discovered the issues with the PPK/S Walther he had traded for my Glock 21 Gen4.
I had been hitting and missing trade opportunities with Dan for a while now, and things came together the beginning of the week for a trade of one of my SIG's for a Ruger Night Watchman 45 ACP.
We set a meeting for Tuesday this week, and then I added another weapon, a Glock 21 Gen4 on ODT for sale Monday night. Dan asked if I would trade it for a Walther PPK/S .380 made by Interarms, as I had been trying to get him to trade with me the week before for my Ruger PCC-9. I asked him to bring the PPK/S with and said I would bring the Glock 21 with so we could take a look at the trade.
The trade went smooth, the Ruger was NIB so no issue, and the Walther appeared to function properly in both SA and DA pulls, and there seemed to be no issue with the weapon.
After work on Tuesday, I went out to my gun room and field stripped the Walther to get it range ready per the Walther owners manual. As I removed the slide off of the frame, a piece fell out of the frame onto my bench. I looked at it and couldn't figure out where it was from initially, but did notice a spot right in front of the trigger that was empty. I immediately contacted Dan and let him know what was going on, and that I was investigating to find out what the piece was that fell out was.
After reviewing some YouTube videos detailing weapon disassembly for the PPK/S, I discovered that the piece that fell out was part of a two piece set for the Sear spring assembly. I let the Dan know that, and immediately he said that the other part must have fallen out and that I lost it. In watching the YouTube video, the only way to get the sear spring assembly out is to disassemble the weapon and take out both the trigger and the hammer. The actual missing part is the sear spring which holds the second piece of the sear spring assembly in place, which was falling out. This would not fall out or be removed during a routine field strip for cleaning of the weapon.
I sent a video clip of the disassembly video I viewed to determine the part which was falling out to show Dan what was going on, and that is when the accusations started; Dan said that I disassembled and monkeyed with the weapon, and that it was my problem, and he had sold me the weapon with no guarantee. In all the transactions that I have had on ODT, I have always stood behind the weapons I have provided, and would guarantee each one was in working order. I explained to Dan that I had done nothing more than field strip the weapon as per the Walther owners manual to do a routine cleaning of the weapon before taking it to the range, and could not have removed or lost the part.
Dan continued with additional comments that it was my fault, I had broken the weapon, lost the part, etc. I asked Dan for the return of my Glock 21 and I would give him back the PPK/S as presented to me. He refused and again said it was my fault, I needed to be accountable and so on. I explained to Dan that if there was any issue with the Glock 21 or the SIG I had traded with him, I would without question take back the weapon and return his. This did nothing to change Dan's response and he continued to refuse to take back his weapon, blaming me again for the defect.
I put a formal request together on ODT via PM Tuesday evening and asked for the return of my Glock 21 as he had provided a defective weapon. His reply was that I broke the weapon and that I needed to be accountable and bring it to a gun smith and get it fixed, it is not his problem. He said I should let him know the outcome, but there was never any indication that he would do anything to help with the corrections made by a gunsmith. The right response in my mind is that Dan should have taken the weapon back and returned my Glock 21. When I shared with Dan that I was considering a negative reference for this trade gone bad, his reply was that he would in turn send a negative reference to me. Not sure what I have done wrong here, but if that is what he chooses to do so be it.
At this point I see no other alternative but to post this negative reference. If Dan would change his mind and return my Glock 21 and take back the PPK/S he traded, I would ask for this negative reference to be removed.
