Cylinders not factory fitted by Ruger are a hit or miss proposition. The cylinders may not operate properly.

This is not factory propaganda, I found out the hard (expensive) way.

I've never heard of that happening to anyone unless they were trying to use a barrel that didn't go to that gun. There is an old single six, and a new single six, maybe that's where you ran into your complication.

There are manufacturing variations in the width of the opening in the frame that can cause excessive headspace, meaning that the non-factory fitted cylinder may not fire.

That's why Ruger does not sell the cylinders directly to consumers, and requires that conversion cylinders be factory fitted.

You can buy the conversion cylinders on the secondary market, but there is no assurance that they will work with your particular gun. Been there, done that, which is why I acquired all of this information.
