Hey guys,
I know its a long shot but I thought I'd ask if anyone has an old shed or some barnwood they would give for a good cause? I'm building a nice treehouse this winter for my girls and was hoping to save some $ on plywood.

I'm located in Athens and would travel an hour or more to come tear one down.

Any other cost saving ideas are appreciated. I've drawn up plans for a 8'x8' treehouse with a 3.5' portch. I'm planning to put it 8' high on 4x4 posts and it will be fully enclosed. My material estimate is around $1500 currently with $300 of that being plywood sheathing.

Thanks guys. As always smart-ass answers are welcome. This is ODT afterall

If you use 6"x6x16' columns at the corners sitting on leveled 3" cinder block footers on compacted soil and use 2x8 beams with carriage bolts and large nails predrilled in the connections to make them stiff then you can prolly cut out the cross braces underneath, to create more useable space. If it's too flimsy you can add the cross braces later as needed. Bolt the braces and large members in w carriage bolts or all thread rod.

Yea, I had planned on 6x6 to start but then I priced them and decided to go with 4x4 instead. I'm actually thinking of using 6 of the 4x4s.

Good tip though. I may just bite the bullet and pay for some 6x6s

Nate,
If you want to go vinyl siding instead...
I've got about 3+ square of Heartland beaded deluxe vinyl siding, a partial box of outer corners, a partial box of "J" channel...gray in color.
Left over from a project...you're welcome to it. Left over from my sunroom project which you saw.
Free...come and get it...16 ft long boxes.

This style...
