  1. Generator Thread ....When the power goes out...

Perhaps it was just the gensets I was considering bidding on, didn't see a selector switch.
  2. Generator Thread ....When the power goes out...

If I remember correctly the military generator operates at 440 hertz, regular power is 60 hertz. So how does this affect your household equipment if you run it off one?
  3. Has Prepping Slowed or Intensified ?

Glad to see that most of the predictions didn't come to pass yet.
  4. Generator Thread ....When the power goes out...

Guessing that's the same breeze that shot through Wheeler County and gave us 15 minutes of worry.
  5. Preparedness checklist?

No fish in mine yet, just wood ducks and Geese dropping in. I'd love to stock it with catfish for starters. Between getting a garden going and 80 plus pecan trees we might just have enough to eat!
  6. Preparedness checklist?

I've got a 1/3 acre pond that needs enlarging, unfortunately that means I need to get started on the paperwork. Approval from the gods above starting with the Corps of Engineers I'm told.
  7. Lessons learned from last weeks tornadoes

Just a pointer for all that plan on leaving town in a hit the fan situation. after the storm passed google showed all routes out of town to our farm in South GA completely blocked.
  8. Lessons learned from last weeks tornadoes

Going back to Griffin this week, wife says the town looks like a war zone. We were lucky, very close but no damage. Kids were coming to the farm and my wife insisted that I be there. literally missed it by an hour.
  9. Generator Thread ....When the power goes out...

I was just thinking this week that I have two generators and haven't used one in my 64 years. Son borrowed one for a spell, sure hope the stabilizer works in that one!
  10. Can you eat meat of animals you’re allergic to?

True, wife gets duck eggs from a guy at work. The first time I ate them I got sick, probably had nothing to do with the eggs but I have a gag reflex when they are cooking now.
  11. Can you eat meat of animals you’re allergic to?

Depends, when I was diagnosed with a milk allergy I didn't eat beef for a year on the advise of my DR. I'm still allergic to milk and it's byproducts but can eat beef with on problem. Got bit by a tick and had to stop eating it for a couple of years as I would get sick. Eventually that faded...
  12. Bet you never tried this

Interesting reads on that on the internet.
  13. Generator Thread ....When the power goes out...

They had at least a container full that they were actioning off. The first few went in the 900-1000 range, after that they headed down. I just waited thinking that no way would all of them sell. When it hit $400 they stopped the auction and said anybody that wants one at $400 could buy but that...
  14. Generator Thread ....When the power goes out...

I picked up a Firman hybrid last year, it may be worth noting that while it starts at 10000 watts it runs at 8000. Thats on gas, propane starts at 9050 and runs at 7250. Cant argue with what I paid, trailer load at Rebel auctions got down to $400 and they stopped the auction and refused to sell...
  15. Complete Internet Shutdown??

Checking into it, some no longer hook up to copper wire phone lines for the upload and if you don't have good cell service your screwed.
  16. Complete Internet Shutdown??

Just dropped a deposit on the next home. No internet available, cell phone or Ill be going to a local library. It still has a power pole with a motorized antenna at the top. But it should be 5 years before I get there so maybe that rural broadband project will be working by then.
  17. Can you recommend a book on canning/preserving for a beginner?

Things change over the years also, had some broth in 1/2 gallon jars and went to check cooking time. No one recommends using the 1/2 gallons for anything but apple and pear juice now.
  18. Can you recommend a book on canning/preserving for a beginner?

Here is a link to the Blue Book, my wife still consults hers occasionally. Rarely do we can vegetables but meat and meals a bit more often. Last week we canned about 80 pounds of chicken. Wings and thighs got frozen, breasts were chunked into pieces and canned, legs got canned bone in. The...
  19. Can you recommend a book on canning/preserving for a beginner?

Ball Blue Book aka the canning bible.
  20. Coronavirus Pandemic (many threads merged)
