    New "currency" will be guns, ammo, food, booze, cigarettes, certain meds. Having it on hand (assuming you are at or can get to your stash) is the best bet. Scrounging may work later.

    Depends on reason" Riots/social breakdown = Arrow carbine, Ruger 22/45, Cold Steel Hunter, Alice Natural disaster that might last longer = substitute Ruger 10-22, M&P 9mm.
