I have my watch collection down to one, an Omega Speedmaster Professional (pictured a few pages back) with an assortment of straps for different occasions & flavors, which gets 97% of my wrist time.....plus a Timex...
From my personal experience (I ran XC in high school about 7 years ago and loved it), my recommendations are: (from what they're worth, which isn't much)
- Go slow at the beginning, and don't expect to run too far. Your endurance will pick up steadily, but don't try to force your body to do...

Ran XC and long-distance track for a while in high school and loved it. I was never the fastest (partly because I have more of a 'baseball player' build than marathon runner build), but it's great exercise and makes you feel alive when you really push it to your limit. I ran a hilly 5K race...
