I've had to kill one the hard way before. Back when I.was in high school the trash was my responsibility. Get up one morning and it was strolled all over the yard. Picked it up before school Ans mad as hell. Happened twice before we built a small fence around it. Still had trash in the yard...
To each his own, but on leases, I've seen many in the >300 range. my dad had one somewhere around 650 ish on a hunting lease using a weatherby 30-378 and leupold optic. I like the enhanced sight picture of a scope and crosshairs so that I know exactly where my bullet is going.
Sometime I get completely naked, soak my self in scent away and cover up in leaves and sticks, I then skidaddle up a tree with my trusty mini swiss army knife and wait for them to come by, when I see a deer I pull out the butt out tool and slam it in the deers back side REAL hard, with a rope...
But if hunting with optics is too easy well all use .17hmr with iron sights, fmj to keep hunting a "skill"......
Deer are a highly populous animal in the south...Hunting is not just a sport, it is a necessity, both for their eco system and our property. Max the bag limit, stuff the freezer...
Agreed, I've also known several people that have taken deer at 500-600 yards on leases (They're not all densely wooded, and as NWSharpshooter said, just because you don't hunt inareas that afford long shots, doesn't mean there aren't some circumstances that require long distance shots). Also...
How bout a 30/30 setup? cheap, time tested, efficient for deer, and you can throw a butt pad from wallyworld on it. With winter hunting you're going to have several layers on, combine that with the buttpad and I doubt he'll notice the recoil.
LOL, naw ccf isn't sure what's coming first, if he has a 300blk upper I may get it and enjoy it til I find a 5.56 upper to trade for, or use 300blk on the dogs. I wouldn't chance my life with a 22 on a yote charging LOL.
Several questions...
1. What's the laws regarding hunting during deer/bow season/small game etc if I plan on hog hunting only.
2. Where are good wmas to hunt hogs?
3. When I'm scouting for hogs, what should I look for?
4. I plan on using a 7.62, what bullet would get the job done? how...
Thanks! I know you grind it with beef fat and mix in egg to do burger, but I've always heard that the wild taste was from blood. me personally, i've had it both ways...IMHO I prefer it gamy but cooked/seasoned well. Deer isn't beef and shouldn't taste like it.
But basically what I was getting at is I don't see where the excess would be anymore necessary than a steakmeat. So tim, you never deblooded? Any serous gamy taste or was that from fat?
Lol, ever opened up a whole ribeye? You cut a hole in the packaging, pour in trash can lol. Then you whipe it down with a paper towel as you remove from the plastic or you will have blood dripping inbetween your cutting boards and onto your packing trays, all in your hot wrap lol..Trust me...
Seen WMS talking about doing his own processing and it's something I'll definitley do once I can get the extra time.
Anyways, I've been taught all my life that after you skin the meat, place it in a cooler with ice/water, let the blood drain, keep rinsing til the meat is clean...I understand...
If I get back into hunting I'll definitley be doing that. I'll get my own friggin grinder set up. I can do sausage, burger, stew meat, and my favorite, BACKSTRAP!
As someone that's had to deal with fall protection, I reccomend some type of fall suppression system. If available for hunting I'd look into one that has the lanyard that reduces the shock of the fall. Even if its just something to keep you tethered in to your stand, its better than an...
Here's my. 02 cents, or. 005 cents from me being sick.. deer are beautiful animals, I will agree to that. Hunting them is always a fun doing. But lets not forget the modern reason behind hunting. Population control. In my hometown there are days during the season when its a shoot anything day...
So here by the end of the month I'm hoping to pick up a couple mosin nagants, one just to keep, one to hunt with as a cheap deer rifle since I wont be going very often. I plan on hunting on wma land but I have a couple questions. 1. Where is a wma close to Cherokee county, and 2, I don't have a...
