Good info here. I know guys who hunt around the weather.
Unless your guys target a specific area, think 10/10/10. Youll need to hike 10 miles a day, be at 10,000 elevation, 10 miles away from the nearest road.
Elk travel an immense amount. When they spook, they'll generally leave that zip code.
When I started putting in for alligator, I feel like it was 4 pts needed for Siminole. Now it's 7+ thanks to PP inflation, it'll end up at 10 unfortunately.
Reminds me of the wolf situation out west. Its amazing what you can do if you learn to not post on bookface and/or run your mouth and keep a shovel handy.
Like mentioned above, elk need a large range. I don't think GA has the availability for that needed space. Also, GA knows you can't tax elk and the revenue will take a few decades to balance out so there isn't really a drive to develop an elk habitat.
I'm 97% sure all no fence eastern elk hunts are via lottery and like you said, you could literally never draw in your lifetime. I've put in for NC/TN/KY every year for the last 5-8 years with 0 success.
I'm this [ ] close to just focusing on elk hunting out west and putting the NC/TN/KY...
Good luck sir. I hunt on shared family property in CO and I don't think I have 5 years left until we get booted off and the property sold just because. Keep your chin up and you'll find a new place
Seriously. When I started getting points 5 years ago, all the best zones were like 4 points, now it's pushing 6. Preference Point Inflation Creep at its finest.
This is the the best actusl response. I took a bear in Idaho 10 years ago and the local butcher advised me to do it all in various types of sausage. It was amazing (specificity the cheddarwurst version).
A little late but as a guy with only 3 pts, I'll bank it'll take another 2-3 years of putting in to actually get drawn. And here I was thinking I 3 would be enough next year..
Question for the people who know, the year you want to try the draw do you out in for a pt and apply for the draw or is...
