I like a Trijicon Accupoint 3X9x40 with an amber aiming point. It has excellent light transmission and the illuminated aiming point is quick, never been able to get it to run though.
Range shooting and shooting at game are different worlds. I shoot reactive targets at extreme range, with good success, enough to know better than try it on game.
Deer at 500 yards are not easy. If the deer takes a step at the moment of the shot, you have just gut shot that deer. A lot can go wrong in half a second.
Would you recommend that shot to a novice who asks where to shoot a deer? I would not. I have 40 plus years of experience, top skills and equipment and I will wait for better odds. But that is just me and it is only a deer.
I shoot squirrels in the head or not at all.
Congratulations.
I do not have pictures of the young buck I shot that was missing his lower jaw, a festering mess in its place. The guy who shot it off probably thought he missed clean.
Lots of best, we had a great week in camp with friends and family, ate better than kings, saw lots of deer, I killed a good 9 point, my best in years.
I am relieved that it is over, time to fish!
After the Deer Hunting crowds have left, hunting from elevated stands overlooking "Edge" types of cover can be productive, early and late, a call helps. Don't miss.
When your Corn first sprouts, shoot as many crows as you can and hang them over the corn, trees, wires, whatever. This is what I do and the only thing that works and works every time. The Crows will catch on to the electronic call pretty quick. The coyotes are easier as long as they come in...
