I carry a Ruger .357 GP100 in the woods, 3 snake shot, and 3 flat nosed bullets, for snakes, hogs, or two legged critters, along with a couple of speed loaders
I ran over one in Texas once, his rattlers were over the center line, and his head somewhere in the weeds. Was like running over a fence post, my truck lifted off the ground, all four wheels. I was doing in excess of 100 mph, was lucky to land it again. Kept it on the road and kept on trucking..
Last deer I took with a 7 MM Mag, took out 3 inches of neckbone at 250 yards. He was spun 180, and flipped upside down. Didn't even kick once. Neck shot didn't spoil any meat.
Have nothing against a .30 06, saw my brother take a deer out, with 2 shots through the heart at 200 yards, said deer running flat out at the time. That M1 Garand was dead on accurate, also saw him take the bottom of a beer can at 300 yards, with peep sights.
The Ruger M77 in 7MM Mag I had was rated at 25 ft. lbs of recoil. Last deer I took with it, was at 250 yards. Took 3 inches of his neck bone out, flipped him completely over and turned him back to front. Dressed out at over 200 lbs. (Texas)
We had a @600 lb sow we decided to butcher. My dad had an old 17 rnd, tube fed Remington .22, the sow took all 17 rounds in the head and was still standing. Had to reload to finish the job. Pigs, domesticated or wild, are damn tough.
