    That's why I don't hunt any more. I thought these people just did this stuff on public land but I've had many morons with no orange wander up on me on private land that they weren't supposed to be on.

    A 30-30 does an excellent job of dropping deer with a behind-the-shoulder-on-third-of-the-way-up shot, but I prefer using the AR platform nowadays. I'm going to try for one this year with a Winchester .223 64gr Powerpoint. There's always the good ol' 470 Nitro Express in a H&H double rifle. :D

    Right now I don't have a dedicated deer rifle - I'm looking to buy just haven't figured out exactly what I want yet. I guess I'm "in between rifles."     Watch your Remington 30-30 cartridges closely, I had an issue with their stuff and won't ever use them again: http://forum.gon.com/showthread.php?t=576929&highlight= I'll be shooting a 1989 model Glenfield 30A 30-30 with factory irons, throwing Federal 150gr.
