Hunted in Madison County at a buddies field, was a bust today. Saw about 20 birds in total but a majority were WAY off. Ended up with three and enjoyed the day! Weather was really messing stuff up.
I strongly considered an E bike setup but have since changed my mind. Only hunt public and after racking my mind about it over and over for months, I feel the E bike would be just something else to deal with. I saddle hunt already so my climbing gear is minimum. I plan on going with a pack frame...
New turkey hunter here but Id be down! My plan is to turkey hunt as many days as possible this year, at multiple different WMAs to try and get my first turkey. If I even get some verbal response from a turkey Ill be happy
Im in! This will be my first year turkey hunting so doubtful Ill be of much assistance. I plan to hunt Redlands and the surrounding public land mainly.
Ive been wanting to make a trip out there but havent yet. I mainly hunt at Redlands myself. Youll need to "check in" on the app for the WMA before going to hunt. Then, drive in until you find a spot you can park. Only rules to parking are do not block the road and do not block/ drive around any...
I plan to give squirrel and rabbit a try for the first time this year. Ive deer and dove hunted for years but am looking to branch out more now. In the coming weeks, I plan to try squirrel, rabbit and some duck hunting in the mix. Then, onto turkey season.
Ill be at Redlands for most of this...
Who will be out the 21st-29th this week? Ive lucked out on finding any pay fields to get in so I plan to give Redlands WMA fields some love and see if I can get lucky!
This was the first time Ive had any experience like this on public land myself either. I tend to hunt public during the weekdays and that eliminates a lot of the issues
I was in the woods from 0630-1200 today and didnt see a thing! Had two guys together on public land shooting at anything that moved. That ruined my first spot so I moved around doing some ground hunting/ scouting.
I avoided this morning due to the rain and wanting to hunt a new area on public. Ill probably head out there around 1300 today to sit until dark. Im thinking Ill hug the edge of a field that has a small rub on one side of it. Maybe Ill get lucky later!
I scouted public land for over three hours today. Found some tracks, a few scrapes and two rubs. I hope to hunt between the gaps in the rain tomorrow and throughout the rest of the week. Looking to get a doe if I can get lucky!
Thanks for the info everyone! Most of the areas I plan to hunt are normally a mile from parking/ the roadway, the farthest is 2 miles one way off trail. Due to the treks its taking me to get in and out, I plan on quartering up anything I kill and packing it out just for the sake of time. I am...
This is my first year hunting any WMAs and have a few questions in reference to hunting them. I will mainly bow hunt at Redlands and understand I can park pretty much anywhere as long as I dont block a gate, traffic etc.
Ive looked at the regs and unless Ive missed it, cant tell if its a sign...
I seem to be at a loss here. The WMAs close to my area (Barrow County) are all quota based for deer hunting and Ive long missed the deadline for this. Can any suggest a WMA within an hour and a half driver from this area that is open to deer hunt without a quota requirement to hunt there?
Im only about 60 rounds on this setup so far but its a pretty noticeable difference in POA to POI for my setup. I still have much more shooting to do before getting a good load etc worked for it. My setup is a Ruger American Ranch 16: 1:8 5.56 with a KAC NT4.
Who all here hunts with one? Ill be running a Ruger American Ranch with a can this year in 5.56. Shooting great so far with Federal Fusion 62gr 223. What is your preferred 223/5.56 deer round?
